“Color has been written almost entirely out of architecturaltheories, education and discourse,” Vobis notes. “By understanding colore [color] in conjunction with disegno [drawing], we can … resuscitatea discourse of color within the context of architecture.”
Vobis plansto visit ancient frescos in Pompeii, Herculaneum and Rome as well as “all-overcolor environments that subvert the geometry of the spaces that house them,”such as Giotto’s Arena fresco chapel and the Basilica di San Marco. She’ll conducther research using such contemporary tools as a camera, a color meter and digitaldrafting software – all in keeping with her studio methodology in which she evaluates eachsite using both digital and analogue techniques.
